I would like to introduce you to Sophie, aka Sofa. She moved in with me in 2005. Prior to that, she had lived at Project Pet in Columbia, SC for over a year. She had been adopted once, but returned because she jumped on the kitchen counters and scratched the furniture. Who returns a cat?!? And for things that are normal cat behavior! She had probably lived at one of the local shelters prior to that – Project Pet rescues animals that are about to be destroyed at the local municipal shelters and gives them a home until they can be adopted.
Sophie was the oldest cat in a room full of teenagers. About a half dozen black cats, between 6 months and a year old, were climbing up and down my back when Sophie came up and started licking my hand with her sandpaper tongue. She was so elegant with her chartreuse eyes and deep gray tortie fur, I couldn’t resist her. She still likes to lick, and she does scratch the furniture (we had to say goodbye to the old recliner due to her predilections), but she doesn’t often climb on the counters. Her favorite spots are the backs of the loveseat and the club chair.

Sophie is adorable. She looks very content. I adopted my cat as an adult, too. Happy blogging!
